Xbox One's Titanfall capped at 6v6!

But is that really such a bad thing?

Respawn the developer of the forthcoming Xbox One exclusive action/shooter have revealed that the game will be limited to a maximum of 12 players total. With the game being multiplayer only featuring no single player component many have been dissappointed by this low player count. However given the games core premise of being able to jump into your own giant titan robot at will and battle against on foot players and those in other titans for the sake of bandwidth this is likely a good decision.

Respawn have made it clear that every human player will have full access to their arsenal and titan at all times, meaning that all 12 players can simultaneously fight in Titans should they so wish. Additionally, 6v6 becomes a lot less underwhelming when you realise that each team will be supported by several dozen AI infantry units. Whilst not the same as having all human players on your team, it should certainly help bring the scale of the battles in line with expectations.

OXM notes that game engineer Jon Shiring has made it clear that "it's not a technical limitation" and added "We just found that 6v6 is the sweet spot for everything, for our maps and the modes" undoubtedly Respawn will have done thousands of hours of play testing to find out the best format for Titanfall. Given the high quality expected from this new team comprised of many members of the original Infinity Ward team that bought us Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare they have a lot to prove. It'll be exciting to see how things pan out and if 6v6 really is the sweet spot.

Titanfall releases on March 14th for: Xbox One, Xbox 360 and PC
