Is Dwayne Johnson playing DC superhero Captain Marvel/Shazam?!

In a new interview from the team over at TotalFilm Dwayne Johnson has been giving some insight into his discussions with DC about joining their cinematic universe in a superhero role. Whilst many had predicted that Johnson's ongoing talks would lead to the announcement that he would be taking up the role of Green Lantern Jon Stewart (which we'd have loved to see) it's clear from the interview that he's likely playing someone else entirely.

Of his talks with DC Comics, Johnson said "There's a character out there that we're going to announce soon". Elaborating he continues "He has the power of Superman, and it's not the Green Lantern by the way. Believe me - Jon Stewart - he is a character who I wanted to play, but there was already a version of Green Lantern, and so now we've gone in a slightly different direction. But this character has the power of Superman. He can throw down." Adding finally with a grin "Just say the word. That's all I'm going to say."

As rightly pointed out by IGN, in DC comics the young character Billy Batson magically turns into the exceptionally strong and high powered Captain Marvel/Shazam by saying the single word 'Shazam'. Could it be possible that Johnson is giving us such a strong hint that this is the character he will play? It seems the chances could be highly likely.

What do you think of the potential that none other than Dwayne Johnson will be bringing such a unique superhero as Captain Marvel/Shazam to the big screen? We're pretty excited to see it happen, though, if we're completely honest, we're gutted that he's not going to be bringing the Jon Stewart Green Lantern to the screen. With Comi-Con coming up later this week is it likely that DC and Johnson will be treating us to a full announcement very soon?
