Gwendoline Christie to play a key antagonist in Star Wars: Episode VII
It appears that we may now have a good inclination of the character Gwendoline Christie will be playing in the upcoming Star Wars: Episode VII. A rumour from Badass Digest suggests that Christie will be taking the role of an antagonist in the film. There's a lot of speculation around this and some of it is quite potentially spoiler filled, if you want to know more, keep on reading.
Christie's character is said to be an Imperial Officer who is chasing down John Boyega's character - rumoured to be a deserter Stormtrooper - that fell under her command. The rumours get slightly more complex however as it is said that Christie has been training with a Lightsaber for the role. Could this mean she is an Imperial Officer trained in utilising a Lightsaber, or more intriguingly could this suggest that Christie will in fact be a Sith of some kind?
Before filming began on the movie, there were rumours that Benedict Cumberbatch was being approached to play an antagonist Imperial Officer. Could it be that in the wake of fan complaints that the movie's cast was exceptionally male centric that this role has been gender swapped and is now the role that Christie will be in? We'd like to think it's possible, especially as that would suggest a large part for the actress, who we'd love to see as a darker and more sinister character.
We've of course seen Christie kicking some serious ass in her role as Brienne of Tarth on Game of Thrones so to see her wielding the powers of the Sith and a Lightsaber would be undoubtedly awesome. What do you think to the potential rumour of Gwendoline Christie taking up the role of one of the antagonists of Episode VII? We're very much excited and it'd be great to see a powerful female villain within the Star Wars universe.
