Pokken the ridiculous Pokemon and Tekken mash up brawler revealed

The Pokemon company has revealed a brand new and rather unique Pokemon game called Pokken Tournament. The game is a brand new fighting game featuring everyone's favourite Pokemon and developed by the team at Bandai Namco responsible for none other than the Tekken franchise.

It's a completely unexpected and absolutely unique move on the part of Bandai Namco, The Pokemon Company and Nintendo. Based on the debut trailer below it looks like the game will consist of plenty of classic Tekken style brawling but with players taking control of - what we hope will be - a diverse roster of Pokemon characters.

The game is being developed by a team headed up with the likes of Katsuhiro Harada and Masaaki Hoshino, the lead producers of Tekken and Soul Calibur respectively. The game will debut in Japanese arcades at some point next year and whilst currently there is no word of if it will be coming to consoles in Japan or elsewhere in the world, we'd strongly expect it to if it proves popular.

What do you think to the potential of playing a full on fighting game featuring the best of the Pokemon franchise? Could it be an insightful new way to play with some of our favourite characters and physically play out the battles in a non-turn based effort? Or is this perhaps another way of Nintendo looking to expand it's high earning properties to a wider market by outsourcing development and no doubt keeping a chunky cut of it's earnings?
