Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson to play DC anti-hero Black Adam

After what has felt like endless teasing and speculation about Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's involvement in an upcoming DC comics movie, we can now breath a sigh of relief with this finite announcement. Coming direct from a tweet from Johnson himself in which he stated it's an honour to become the character.

Further to this Variety have confirmed the news with the reveal that Darren Lemke, who recently wrote the script for Sony's Goosebumps has been brought into start developing the script for the as yet untitled movie. Whilst it's not clear if the movie in question will be focused on Shazam for whom Black Adam tends to be the nemesis of we expect a title may be revealed soon.

Casting Johnson as Black Adam is an excellent choice on DC's part and assuming they utilise him as an anti-hero more than a straight up villain he could well branch out into his own unique series after a Shazam lead movie. With DC's big announcement of 7 new superhero movies in the works it's great to see some steps forward in seeing what these movies may be.

With no DC movies due to release until after Batman V Superman it'll be interesting to see how Johnson's Black Adam plays into the rumoured Justice league movie if at all. What do you think to this casting news? Is Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson the right man for the role and are DC using him in the best way possible or should they have pushed him toward an all out hero role such as Green Lantern or Shazam himself? One things for sure we can't wait to see him in the role and this news has us very excited to see what's up next in DC's movie slate.
