Star Wars 2016 standalone movie could star the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Whilst we're yet to see the first of Disney's Star Wars movies when Episode VII hits this December, things are already heating up in the casting department for 2016's installment of the series. It seems that there's a mixture of actresses in the mix for what is as of yet an unknown role, one of which is Rooney Mara known for her roles in the Social Network as well as the american version of The girl with the Dragon Tattoo in which she starred as the titular character alongside Daniel Craig.
As well as Mara, sources at THR suggest that Tatiana Maslany the star of the excellent TV show Orphan Black and Felicity Jones whose recent starring role in The Theory of Everything had her nominated for an oscar round out the three front runners. There are said to be several other actresses who have screen tested for the role but have not made it into the final three.
Little else is known about the first Star Wars standalone movie, though rumour has it that the plot will resolve around some kind of heist featuring a variety of bounty hunters. Whilst we're not sure what this role could be, it's interesting that the first casting news is for a female lead. Could this mean our first Star Wars movie featuring a female protagonist, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
What do you think to this casting news? We're big fans of Rooney Mara and think she'd be the pefect fit for leading female role in the Star Wars universe. What do you think of the casting news and who else would you like to see in the movie? Let us know in the comments below.
