Poor US Opening Weekend Predicted for Gaming Movie Warcraft
Transferring a franchise as huge as World f Warcraft to the big screen was going to be no easy task. Given the nature of the game as an MMO, it was always going to be interesting to see how they would translate this game to a story driven epic of a movie.
With reviews online starting to trickle in - expect ours soon - it's not looking particularly favourable for the big budget action fantasy. With rotten tomatoes currently at 18% and a metacritic rating of 36% it's no surprise that industry tracking is suggesting a mediocre US opening.
With a creation budget of around $160 million, the film's publisher universal-legendary will no doubt be concerned by the estimate of a $25 million opening weekend. Of course these numbers could improve as the film has opened internationally this past weekend accruing $31 million so far and we'd certainly hate to see the film flop. Good or bad, the more money this movie makes the more opportunities there'll be for our favourite gaming franchises to hit the big screen.
Have you high hopes for the upcoming Warcraft movie or are you put off by the currently poor reviews? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
