Sonic the Hedgehog movie announced
It's an odd one to say the least but it would appear that, following in the steps of the likes of Ratchet & Clank, Mario and Assassin's Creed, Sonic is set to star in his very own movie. The film is said to be a live action and CGI hybrid. The film will be a joint production between Sony Pictures Entertainment and Marza Animation Planet.
According to a press release for the movie the films essence will focus on "Sonic's irreverent tone and spirit, reuniting him with some of the most revered and infamous characters of the franchise including the evil Dr. Eggman". Whilst Sonic has appeared in countless animated TV shows and comics this marks his first true step into the world of movies.
When discussing the project, Marza Animation Planet stated "We're confident that this collaboration will bring a fresh take to Sonic, while still capturing everything that the fans love about him." It's interesting to wonder where the movie could go and will it pull from any of the existing Sonic shows or comics. As pointed out by IGN in the comics that have been running for 20 years now, Sonic's inhabited world 'Moebius' is a fictional dystopian version of our planet earth. Could these Sci-Fi elements somehow make their way into the movie? The prospects are exciting indeed!
